Program Descriptions

Adopt a Road is a community engagement program developed by KDCB and Dawson County Community Development and Public Works to clean up and remove litter and signs from county roadways.

America Recycles Day is a community engagement and education event held in November to increase recycling and the purchase of recycled content products.

Christmas Tree Recycling is a once a year community engagement event that provides convenient collection sites for the recovery and reuse of Christmas trees. Trees are then deposited at a central location and volunteer teams assist with the tree mulching effort.

Classroom Presentations are educational programs that serve as demonstrations of KDCB-prepared lesson plans about environmental issues.

Drop-Off Recycling Center provides convenient collection sites for newspaper, mixed paper, aluminum cans, magazines, plastics, and cardboard. Click here for more information.

Enforcement Programs provide staff support and coordination of the Code Enforcement division of the Dawson County Community Development department and the Dawson County Sheriff’s Department for environmental enforcement. Code Enforcement is a clearinghouse for citizen complaints regarding litter, graffiti, illegal dumping, improper trash storage, etc. Code Enforcement tracks complaint status, identifies hot spots for increased intervention and conducts trend analysis. KDCB members act as extensions of Code Enforcement by keeping a watchful eye out for potential problems.

Great American Clean Up is the nation's largest community improvement program, taking place annually from March 1 through May 31, involving an estimated 2.8 million volunteers and attendees.

The Litter Index measures and helps to direct litter prevention programs. It is an accountability tool required by Keep America Beautiful.

Recycle Dawson is a program to educate citizens and businesses about the importance of recycling, how to properly prepare recyclables and where collection sites are located. Information is provided on our webpage, at events, and by telephone.

The Storm Drain Stenciling Program is a community engagement and education program to reduce non-point source pollution. Volunteers stencil an anti-dumping message on storm drains and distribute educational materials to subdivision residents.

Toolkits are portable, interactive models and tailored lesson plans to educate individuals about recycling, litter and graffiti prevention, resource conservation, pollution sources and best management practices for watershed, wetlands, coastal zones, hazardous materials and modern landfill systems.
